Public Trust

Do you think people are inherently trustworthy until something happens to make them lose that trust? And the more you get burned the less likely you are to extend trust? Seems like a no brainer, not some new Andy Capp logic b.s. I just came up with.

But at the Bala Cynwyd Library there are 6 internet workstations and all require you to enter your library card number. Since I owe 20 bucks there, I can't use the computer anymore.

Now, at the Upper Dublin Public Library just outside of Ambler I can walk in right off the street and use any one of their 12 internet workstations. I do have a card here but I don't need to show it to get online, even if I want to reserve a computer.

Makes you wonder what kind of shit went down at the Bala Cynwyd Library for them not to trust anybody. That policy was decided by a board of people sitting around a table and they had a reason for their decision. They forgot that people without library cards sometime depend on library resources to do stuff. People sitting around a table often forget that it's not so easy to get stuff done if you ain't got any stuff.
